Patients and Users for Reasonable Policy

Committed to Keeping it 💯

Transparency Statement

It is always ill-advised to join an organization without knowing its true intent, leadership, or foundational principles. We are up front about our long term goals, and we know that our fellow patients and cannabis users tend to be skeptical of new organizations that claim to reflect their interests. As such, you have the right to know who’s behind PURP.

Founding Member

Patients and Users for Reasonable Policy (PURP) was founded by Ramsey Doudar, a Seattle resident and former medical marijuana patient who has continuously worked in the cannabis industry for about 10 years. He mainly worked as a marketing strategist, but has held various positions in the industry including inventory manager, packaging designer, budtender, product development strategist, content creator, photographer, and industry consultant. He also takes pride in his award-winning joint rolling skills.

After managing his symptoms with cannabis for several years as a medical patient, he was disheartened when Washington folded its medical program into the recreational infrastructure and severely limited the number of qualifying conditions for medical cannabis patients. As someone with illnesses that are not physically observable, Ramsey no longer qualifies to be a patient, so he allowed his medical recommendation to lapse as he still had safe access to medicine through I502 retail shops.

His perspective is that I502 was successful in improving the safety of cannabis products that were previously available through dispensaries, but the product quality, compliance expectations, and overall consumer experience still leave a lot to be desired if our regulated cannabis economy intends to compete with the black market.

Ramsey founded PURP in 2021 after years of frustration and disappointment in increasingly draconian rules adopted by the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (WSLCB) based on regulations introduced by the legislature.

But PURP is not about its founding member... it’s about all of the patients and users in Washington that aren’t being represented while the powers that be continuously impose overbearing regulations to placate pearl clutchers, non-users, and the law enforcement establishment. If you’re one of those patients or users, please join the cause and help us build a cannabis industry that we can be proud to call our own.

Not For Sale

PURP is strictly by the people, for the people. We do not sell anything, we do not receive compensation, and we do not have any corporate sponsors. PURP isn’t some scheme that Uncle Ike’s came up with, nor is it some lifestyle guerilla marketing campaign for STIIIZY, nor is it Leafly’s latest attempt to stay relevant. We are simply stoners who want a better weed industry.

That being said, we recognize that it often takes money to make make change happen, and there is a possibility that we will accept donations, fundraise, start a paid membership program, and even form a PAC in the future— but only when those things become absolutely necessary for progress.
